The competitive ratio for regular admissions this year for Inha University’s pre-medical department was 648.3 to 1. This is the highest competitive ratio for random admissions to medical schools since 2015, when the admissions system was changed from medical school to selection medical school undergraduate. The highest competition rate among the entire medical/pharmacy department (medical, dental, oriental medicine, veterinary, pharmacy) was 666.4 to 1 recorded last year by the Pharmacy Department of Sungkyunkwan University (excellent essay writing).
On the 18th, Jongno Academy analyzed the ‘2023 academic year of regular competition in the medical science department’, which closed the day before. As a result, the pre-medical department of Inha University selected 9 candidates with 5,835 students, showing the highest competition rate. Looking at the universities that recorded the highest competition by department, College of Pharmacy (Sejong) Admissions for Essay Excellence (522.8 to 1), Konkuk University Veterinary School for Excellent Essay Writing (441.8 to 1), College of Oriental Medicine for Kyung Hee University for excellent essay writing (339.4 to 1), and Dental College was the Kyungpook National University Essay test (AAT) (287.6 to 1), etc.
This year, the recruitment for medical/pharmacy departments across the country was divided into the student sub-subject selection, the general student section selection, and the essay selection. Seong-ho Lim, CEO of Jongno Academy explained, “For medical/pharmaceutical departments, grade 1 is the basic requirement for entry, and the only thing that can be challenged even if you are not good is because the essay test is the only way you can try.” However, the overall competition rate in the medical/pharmaceutical field decreased slightly compared to last year.
However, competition in the medical/pharmaceutical sector in the metropolitan area increased from 82.5 to 1 last year to 98.8 to 1 this year. On the other hand, in the Seoul area (52:1 → 46.6:1) and the local area (27.3:1 → 23.6:1), the competition rate decreased slightly, and it is worth noting that the change in the ratio competition back to the area where the university is located is clearly visible. This is interpreted as the effect of the ‘forced selection of 40% of local talent’ used this year.
