According to foreign media such as The Verge, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is developing a new function that automatically hides sexual photos sent to Instagram DMs according to the user’s choice. Earlier, the app’s developer Alessandro Palucci (@alex193a) shared a captured photo on his Twitter on the 20th, saying, “Instagram is taking steps to prevent nudity while chatting.” When a nude photo is sent to an Instagram DM, it is automatically hidden, and the photo can only be seen if the ‘View Photos’ button is pressed. Instagram also said it can’t access the photos or Instagram DMs. On the other hand, digital sex crimes on Instagram have long been raised as a problem. Even famous celebrities and sports accounts send genital or nude photos via DM. Digital sex offenses are ‘obscene use of communication media’ and can be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or by a fine of up to 5 million won.
