The young man, whom he met through Instagram, went home when no one else was around and stole the girl’s mother’s ATM card and money. The incident took place in Kozhikode. Arfan, 21, was arrested by Kasaba police at Shafiq Niwas on Francis Road. The young man is accused in several theft cases.
He met the girl through Instagram. The two later fell in love. The girl invited Arfan to the house when no one was at home. Arfan went home and went to the girl’s mother’s bedroom. There they stole four ATM cards and cash from their bag. The girl did not know about this. When it was time for the relatives to get home, Arfan left the house. Later, Rs 45,000 was withdrawn from ATMs in different parts of the city.
The housewife from Kallai came to know about the loss of the ATM card when the message of withdrawal came on the phone. He immediately informed the police. The police then inquired into the matter. The housewife said she did not go anywhere with the bag containing the ATM and that there was a burglary in the house. However, they pointed out that no other valuables were lost.
Meanwhile, the police showed the housewife a photo of a young man who had collected CCTV footage from the ATM where the money was withdrawn. She swore she and her children did not know. However, the police, who were suspicious of her daughter’s behavior, set her aside and questioned her. The child said he did not know. By then, the police had received accurate information about the accused.
Arfan was previously a defendant in several cases. The police, who collected Arfan’s information, also took his daughter’s phone records with the help of a cyber cell. Police found out from phone records that the girl had been in contact with Arfan several times. The girl said that she was cheated when she asked the student in front of the documents. He told the girl that he was a graduate student and that her parents were abroad.
Arfan has been jailed several times in various theft cases at various stations. He pretended to be in love by hiding all this. He has shared a photo with his friends on social media.
