‘Insult’ on Facebook; CPM wounded in clashes | PA Mohammed Riyas | AN Shamseer

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI (M) is actively debating whether AN Shamsir’s statement on Facebook that ‘insult is Murali’s biggest investment in the world’ is a response to Minister PA Mohammad Riyaz and the party leadership. The question also arose as to whether the Facebook war between the BJP and the Congress had affected the CPM as well.

Shamsir, a member of the state committee, touched on a line that led to many comments, even as the state committee itself had suggested that comments on social media should be subject to discipline.

Shamseer borrowed the dialogue from the film as the first line of a post praising Jayasurya, who won the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘Vellam’. The question is whether most of the comments are aimed at Minister Mohammad Riyaz himself.

Shamsir’s use of the word ‘insult’ comes at a time when Shamsir’s questioning Riyaz’s suggestion in the Assembly that MLAs should not come to see the contractors and the minister’s public response has created waves in the CPM. Riyaz had responded by saying that no one had criticized him at the assembly meeting and that he stood by what he had said.

The CPM leadership also declared support for Riyaz. Many people think that Shamsir, who was silent, expressed his mental state in that dialogue. Shamsir goes on to say that after being insulted for not giving the expected ministry, he is portrayed as an intermediary of the contractors and therefore does not give up.

Shamsir, who was SFI state secretary and DYFI state president, is senior to Riyaz in the assembly and party, but the two joined the state committee together at the state conference in Thrissur. At the DYFI National Conference in Kochi, however, Riyaz ‘overtook’ Shamsir.

Riyaz, who is not the DYFI state president or secretary, became the national president. Shamsir and M. Swaraj, who were state president and secretary, became vice president and joint secretary. DYFI national presidency with a positive factor for Riyaz’s entry into the cabinet.

With Riyaz Kanni becoming a minister in Kozhikode in the name of minority and youth representation, Shamseer, the second time MLA from Kannur, who can claim the same representation, lost his way. There are those who think that its anger is reflected in everything from the criticism in the assembly party to the post on Facebook.

The relationship between Shamsir and Riyaz’s Kozhikode party is not good either. The Kozhikode leadership had opposed the nomination of Shamseeer in Vadakara in 2014. The Kannur leadership later complained to the state leadership that Shamsir’s defeat to Mullappally Ramachandran was the fault of the people of Kozhikode.

Riyaz, who is expected to step down as DYFI chairman, will convene a meeting of the DYFI Central Committee in Delhi on the 27th. The Central Committee has 8 members from Kerala. Riyas’ change may pave the way for loosening of DYFI at the Center and in Kerala. The CPM is careful not to let the ripples between the two prominent leaders of the CPM’s youth wing affect the youth leadership and the youth movement.
