Intel powers AI, “expands the use of computer chips”

[하이파(이스라엘)=권봉석 기자] Intel has strengthened its dedicated SoC (personal semiconductor) for AI-related processing, which is increasingly used in the PC environment.

At the ‘Beyond the Core’ event held at IDC (Intel Development Center)9 in Haifa, Israel on the afternoon of the 13th (local time), Nadav Orbach, General Manager (Vice President) of Intel Vision Technology Group said, “Performance will the laptop’s webcam is enhanced by installing a dedicated IPU for image processing.”

Dan Rogers, senior director of mobile product marketing at Intel, also emphasized, “In the future, we will expand the installation of VPU, an SoC that reduces the burden on the processor, in order to prevent noise during video conferencing and apply effects in content creation range in laptops to be released in the future.”

■ “IPU 6 improves webcam image quality and makes telemedicine a reality”

On this day, Nadaf Orbach, general manager, said, “Laptop webcams have appeared since 2000, but the resolution was only VGA (640 × 480 pixels). However, since the 2020s, the resolution of webcams has increased and AI technology has been. applied to produce clearer images with less screen noise. I was able to send it.”

Intel made it possible to add IPU (Image Processing Unit) 6, which can improve the image quality of a webcam, to the 12th generation core processor for mobile (laptop) released this year.

By using Intel IPU 6, the number of frames per second of video progress and colors can be expressed more accurately in dark environments. Major PC manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Microsoft have launched notebook computers with this technology on the market.

Nadaf Orbach, general manager of Nadaf Orbach, said, “Using IPU, not only can unlock and improve image quality through facial recognition, but also uses a PC camera instead of telemedicine or a 3D scanner. By measuring the angle, we can determine the direction of future treatment.”

■ VPU to strengthen AI processing, interlocking with chips for future laptops

Dan Rogers, Intel’s Senior Director of Mobile Product Marketing, said, “A variety of applications, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Adobe Sensei, use AI to suppress noise during video conferencing and apply effects to create content.” he said.

“Intel will apply the specialized VPU (vision processing unit) for this processing to 13th generation core processors for mobile as well as Meteor Lake to be released next year,” he said.

Major PC manufacturers such as Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, and Acer, as well as Microsoft, the manufacturer of the Windows operating system, plan to join the event and install various functions using VPU.

Vivek Pradeep, Microsoft’s partner research manager, also said, “Microsoft is currently working closely with Intel on VPU.”
