International flight at the oldest airport in Sri Lanka after five decades

Ratmalana Airport, Sri Lanka’s oldest and first airport, landed internationally after 54 years. The flight from the Maldives landed at Ratmalana International Airport in Colombo on Sunday. The 50-seat aircraft will operate three times a week and five later, officials said.

With the opening of the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake in the late 1960s, Ratmalana Airport became a domestic airport. Ratmalana Airport, established in 1938, was the only airport at that time. The major international airport that serves Sri Lanka is Bandaranaike International Airport.
