The investigation by the Special Investigation Headquarters into the 10/29 disaster has more or less reached its final stage.

The special edition said, “The investigation is coming to an end,” and “We are speeding up to finish before the Lunar New Year holiday.”

The special issue handed over 11 people, including police and ward office staff, to the prosecution, but expressed the view that it is difficult to investigate the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, designated as ‘top line ‘.

The Special Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency has concluded that 11 people are suspected of being involved in the disaster so far.

Earlier, after handing over 7 police officers, including former Yongsan Police Station Chief Lee Im-jae, to the prosecution, today, four ward office workers, including Yongsan Park Chief Hee-young, were sent to the prosecution .

Even if it is a voluntary citizen event without an organiser, local governments are responsible for managing it, and charges of ‘negligent business-related death’ have been applied. Now is the time to pay attention to see if the investigation will seriously go to the top line, and the special edition mentioned the exit, saying, ‘I will finish the investigation before the Lunar New Year holidays ‘.

An officer from the special department said, “The investigation into the cause of the accident has been completed, and there are few additional cases.”

Regarding investigations by higher-level organizations such as the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the National Police Agency, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the appearance expressed that judicial processing is difficult, saying, “I have many concerns.”

An official from the special issue said, “The authority and obligations given to central administrative agencies or metropolitan governments are abstract,” and “there are few cases where they are held accountable for their specific negligence.”

In a situation where Minister Lee Sang-min or Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun constantly distanced themselves from responsibility, he suggested the possibility of not investigating them.

“To be honest, I didn’t know there was such a thing in Itaewon that day.”

“No one, including the police, could have imagined a situation like this.”

In the special version, itaewon station manager and Yongsan-gu public health center director, who are other targets of the investigation, will be sent without detention.

As the possibility of completing the investigation in the line of judicial treatment of field practitioners such as the police, firefighting, and ward offices in the special issue increases, debate about ‘cutting the tail’ is expected to arise.
