[Reuters]–Dick Pound, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has dealt with the unknown issue of former doubles world No. 1 Peng Shuai (China) in women’s tennis, depending on the IOC. Said it could take a tough stance on the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

On the 2nd, Peng Shuai was forced to act by former Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Gaoli, who was an executive of the Chinese Communist Party, at Weibo, a Chinese exchange site, and revealed that he had an affair with an agreement. The post was deleted after about 30 minutes, but screenshots of the post spread on the Internet and became a hot topic.

Since this post, Peng Shuai has been unknown, and there are growing voices around the world. Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams (USA) also commented on their safety, and WTA CEO Steve Simon, who oversees the women’s tennis tour, said if there was a problem. It has also warned that it is ready to withdraw from the tournament in China.

“If it isn’t resolved quickly and sensiblely, things may get out of hand. (The IOC will take a tough stance),” Pound told Reuters. It may not be possible, but no one knows what will happen, “he said, not completely eliminating the possibility of canceling the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Regarding the response to China, “If I were on the Chinese side, I would say,'(I’m sorry to cancel the Olympics), but people other than us all over the world would be more disappointed than us.'” He said that bargaining with the sports world and government officials was more effective than putting pressure on them.
