IPL 2021 Final | Whistle blows in Dubai; Chennai IPL champions beat Kolkata

Chennai Super Kings clinch IPL XI title Chennai beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final at the Dubai International Stadium. This is Chennai’s fourth title in the IPL. Chasing Chennai’s target of 193, Kolkata were bowled out for 165 for nine.

Chennai, who did not qualify for the playoffs in the 2020 season, have won their fourth IPL title this season.

Shubhman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer gave Kolkata a flying start as they chased down Chennai’s winning target. The Chennai bowlers broke the deadlock after adding 91 runs for the first wicket. But after this, the Chennai bowlers were seen ruling the field. The Chennai bowlers were not allowed to level the middle order as they struggled to find form for Kolkata. Gill (51) and Venkatesh Iyer (50) were the only batsmen to impress. Shivam Mavi was Kolkata’s third highest scorer with 20 runs at the tail end after their half – century performances. Six of the Kolkata line-up could not see the double.

For Chennai, Shardul Thakur took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each while Deepak Chahar took one.

Earlier, Chennai lost the toss and opted to bat, scoring 192 for three in the allotted 20 overs. Chennai won the toss and elected to bat. Faf Duplessis was Chennai’s top scorer with 86 off 59 balls. Chennai reached 192 after Duplessis smashed in the last over. He was dismissed in the last ball of the last over.

Apart from Duplessis, Moin Ali (37 not out off 20 balls), Robin Uthappa (31 off 15 balls) and Rituraj Gaikwad (32 off 27 balls) were the other notable contributors. Sunil Narine took two wickets for Kolkata.
