London: England captain Joe Root withdraws from IPL 2022 Mega Auction The announcement comes after a miserable defeat in the Ashes series (Ashes 2021-22). Root said the England team had more to do and was determined to make the maximum sacrifice for it. The route was registered at the 2018 star auction but no team was called. Root has not been included in the England Twenty20 squad for two years.

Earlier, it was reported that Joe Root would register for the star auction of the upcoming IPL season. Joe Root, one of the batting legends of contemporary cricket, has never played in the IPL. But Root reckoned he would make it to the IPL with the arrival of two new teams in the 2022 season. It was also reported that Root has dreams of a T20 World Cup. But the English Test captain has given up his IPL ambitions before the auction.

Root had earlier publicly expressed his desire to play in the IPL. ‘Will be part of the IPL at some point in his career. “I want to be a part of the IPL and experience it,” Root said. Thirty-one-year-old Joe Root last played T20 cricket in an English shirt in May 2019. Despite a batting average of 35.7 in T20I, the workload, including the Test series, has further alienated him from playing child cricket.
