IPL: Kolkata lose first wicket against Punjab

Dubai: Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a good start in the power play after losing the toss against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021. Kolkata, who lost opener Shubman Gill in the opening over, were 55 for one in seven overs when the information was finally received. Venkatesh Iyer (33 off 23 balls) and Rahul Tripathi (13 off 12 balls) were at the crease.

Disappointed, Gill again

Kolkata, who got off to a good start with 17 runs in the first two overs, lost the first wicket in the third over. Arshadeep Singh smashed Shubhman Gill’s off seven balls to give Punjab their first break through. Venkatesh Iyer, who had a good partnership with Rahul Tripathi, who came on as a one-downer, led Kolkata to 48 in the power play.

Kolkata will make two changes to the squad that won the last match against Delhi Capitals today. Malayalee pacer Sandeep Warrier has been replaced by Shivam Mavi and Loki Ferguson has been replaced by Tim Seafert.

Punjab have made three changes to the team that lost the last match against Mumbai Indians. Fabian Allen replaces Chris Gayle, who left the team due to bio-bubble pressure. Mandeep Singh was replaced by Mayank Agarwal and midfielder Shah Rukh Khan in the final XI of Punjab.

Victory is essential to secure a play-off berth for fourth-ranked Kolkata and sixth-ranked Punjab. In 11 matches, Kolkata have 10 points and Punjab eight.
