IPL Retention: Bangalore, Kohli’s pay cut due to retention of Siraj

Bangalore: Royal Challengers Bangalore have released the IPL retention list ahead of the IPL mega auction. Besides Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, who led Bangalore until last season, Bangalore have retained pacer Mohammed Siraj in third place, according to InSPN Cricinfo.

With the retention of three players, Virat Kohli’s salary will come down this season, according to a Cricinfo report. If four players were retained, the first retainer would be rewarded with Rs 16 crore. But with the retention of three players, Kohli will be rewarded with Rs 15 crore.

Kohli was paid Rs 17 crore last season. It will be known at 9.30 pm tonight whether Royal Challengers Bangalore will retain the fourth player. Kohli was the first player to receive more money than was suggested when he retained players ahead of the last mega star auction.

The first player to retain last season had to pay Rs 15 crore. However, Bangalore Kohli, who retained Uncapped star Sarfraz Khan as the third player, was paid an additional Rs 1.75 crore. With this, Kohli became the highest paid player in the IPL.

If Bangalore retain a fourth player this time around, it could be Yusvendra Chahal. With the retention of three players, Bangalore could spend Rs 57 crore on the mega star auction. With the retention of three players, the first player will get Rs 15 crore, the second player Rs 11 crore and the third player Rs 7 crore.

If four players are retained, the first player will get Rs 16 crore, the second player Rs 12 crore, the third player Rs 8 crore and the fourth player Rs 6 crore.
