Iran reaffirms ‘immediate retaliation’ for US bombing of military bases in Syria

In connection with the bombing of the US military base on the 25th (local time), the Iranian government announced an “immediate retaliatory strike” against any attack on any Iranian military bases deployed for the “war on terror” in Syria at the request of the future Syrian government said in a statement spokesman.

The spokesman for Iran’s Supreme Security Council, Kayban Khosrabi, said that Iran had labeled the US bases in Syria “illegal” in response to allegations by US officials of Iranian involvement in attacks on US bases in Syria, reported Iran’s IRNA news agency. He emphasized that he was watching.

He accused the US side of using false claims to avoid responsibility for the US army’s “illegal occupation” of parts of Syrian territory.

“The US government will not be able to blame third countries for spreading lies about US military bases being illegally occupied and facing resistance,” Kosravi said.

He said that Iran is fighting terrorism for the security of Syria at a great cost and opposes any attack that threatens the security and stability of Syria in the future.

The Iranian government has claimed that its forces in Syria are acting only as advisers and that they are present at the request of the Syrian government.

But on the afternoon of the 23rd, the US military carried out airstrikes on Iranian military installations in north-eastern Syria, hours after a drone bombed a US military base in Syria, killing a US contractor and wounding another and five of the United States troops.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement released shortly afterwards that US forces had “accurately bombed” Iranian military facilities in eastern Syria.

In retaliation for the US air strikes, on the night of the 24th, “Islamic Resistance Forces” carried out a surprise operation using 60 rockets and unmanned self-destructors in two US bases in eastern Syria, IRNA reported.

A US military official admitted in an interview with CBS that an American soldier from a US military base in Syria was injured in an air strike on the 24th.
