ISL 2021-2022: The long-awaited victory for East Bengal

Bambolim: East Bengal, who had been waiting 11 matches for their first win in the ISL (ISL 2021-2022), finally won. East Bengal beat FC Goa by two goals to one in their first win of the season. Naorem Singh’s double gave East Bengal their first win of the season. Goa’s consolation goal was scored by Alberto Noguera.

With the first win, East Bengal moved up one step from last place to ninth with nine points, while Goa remained ninth with a defeat. North East United are currently bottom of the points table. In the first half, Navorem Singh gave East Bengal the lead through an error by Edu Bedia. With East Bengal taking the lead, Goa struggled for the equalizer. In the 21st minute, the Goan players appealed for a handball in the East Bengal box but the referee denied the penalty.

Goa equalized in the 37th minute after a cool break. Alberto Noguro equalized from a pass from Jorge Ortiz. But the relief of the equalizer did not last long. East Bengal regained the lead through Naorem Singh following Goa’s equalizer. Naorom Singh’s shot bounced off the crossbar and into the post.

Goa’s attempts to level the score at the end of the first half and in the second half were effectively defended by East Bengal, who went on to win their first match of the season.
