ISL: Chennai overtakes North East in thrilling battle

Ford: Chennaiyin FC beat Chennai North FC 1-0 in the first half, beating Northeast United FC 1-0 in a thrilling ISL clash. Lallianzuala Chhangte and Anirudh Thapa scored for Chennai while Chennai goalkeeper Vishal Kaith scored an own goal to ease the pressure on North East. Chennai, who were seventh in the table with two consecutive wins, jumped to second place with six points, while ninth in the list were North East points behind North East Point, who lost for the second time in three games.

In the first half, Chennai dominated the attack but North East dominated the ball and passing. The North East was also the site of the attacks. In the first minute, Chennai goalkeeper Vishal Keith easily caught Kamara’s long ball.

Chennai, which then slowly took the field, sharpened their attacks through Change. In the 14th minute, Subhashish Roy’s shot was caught by Changhe. In the 17th minute, North East also got a chance. Correa’s shot from Galego’s beautiful pass was saved in the back of the net.

In the 63rd minute, Mirlan Mursev put the ball into the North East net but Raheem Ali, who touched the ball, was offside and the goal was not allowed. Shortly afterwards, North East’s Hernan Santana’s shot was saved by Vishal Keith.

Shortly afterwards, Rahim Ali misjudged Mursav’s aerial ball into the net. As Chennai intensified their attack, it seemed as if a goal could be scored at any moment. It did not have to wait long. In the 74th minute, Chennai skipper Anirudh Thapa gave Chennai the lead through Valankanadi. North East could not beat Chennai despite standing by the ball, passing and shots on target.
