Rome ∙ The leader of the Brothers of Italy party, Giorgia Meloni (45) was sworn in as Italy’s first female prime minister. Meloni would lead Italy’s first right-wing government since World War II.
The 24 member cabinet was established together with Meloni in a ceremony held in the presidential palace. 6 of the ministers are women. 5 technical experts who do not represent any party.
Meloni’s far-right coalition, led by the Brothers of Italy, won last month’s parliamentary elections with more than 26 percent of the vote. Meloni is the twelfth prime minister to come to power in Italy in 22 years of this century. Mario Draghi resigned.
