It’s back! The Windows 11 File Explorer tab is back again | XFastest News

The tab page of the file manager has always been one of the most anticipated new features of Windows 11 users, but Microsoft’s attitude towards this feature has been a little wavering, and the process of adding and removing it has been repeated in several test versions.

In the latest optional update of Win11, this feature was added back by Microsoft again and optimized.

In the new version, the tab function of the file manager returns, and allows users to sort the pages with the mouse, just like operating a browser tab.

In addition, users can also drag the file manager’s tab out to open as a new window, and double-clicking on a folder will also support opening in a new tab.

It can be seen that the optimized tab function of the file manager has greatly learned from browsers such as Edge and Chrome in terms of operation logic. Whether it is drag-and-drop adjustment or right-click to open a new page, it is the same.

For users, the biggest advantage of this design is that it can reduce the cost of learning, as long as you rely on intuition to operate, and for developers, using a mature operation plan can also avoid detours and save development time.

Judging from the current development progress and Microsoft’s “repeatedly jumping” attitude, it is not clear when this feature will be able to get out of the beta system, but if all goes well, it is expected to meet users in the 22H2 update.
