Jahangir, former mayor of Gazipur

Former Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Mohammad Jahangir Alam appeared before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to respond to the notice.

He came to the ACC head office at Segunbagicha on Tuesday (June 6) at 10:27 am.
Two separate investigation teams led by ACC Deputy Director Ali Akbar issued notices to Jahangir Alam to appear. The members of the team are Assistant Director of ACC. Aliaz Hossain and Md. Ashiqur Rahman.

The ACC gave a notice to Jahangir Alam to appear on May 23 for questioning on charges of misappropriation of money and acquisition of illegal assets through irregularities and corruption in the project while he was the mayor of Gazipur City Corporation. He was requested to address the ACC headquarters on June 6 and 7.

The notice sent to the former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, Jahangir Alam, was asked to appear at the ACC head office at Segunbagicha in the capital on May 21 and 22 on charges of illegal transactions as a fake bank, embezzlement of crores of rupees through corruption and irregularities in various projects and acquisition of illegal assets. But he appealed to ACC for time.

Regarding the complaint, ACC sources said, Jahangir Alam, the former general secretary of Awami League of Gazipur City, has been accused of embezzling money from various development projects through irregularities and dealing crores of rupees in fake bank accounts. Moreover, Gazipur City Corporation executive engineer Anichur Rahman and some contractors have also been accused of embezzling money from various projects.

On November 25, 2021, the then mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, Jahangir Alam, was expelled by the local government department through a notification.

In that notification, fake tenders against Jahangir Alam, irregularities in RFQ tenders related to specific companies, unreasonable recruitment of manpower in various positions, misappropriation of money through fake bills-vouchers on the occasion of Bishwa Ijtema and showing the same work in various projects, every year Hatbazar lease money in properly designated sector. Various complaints were raised including non-deposit. Besides, there are complaints regarding land grabbing and road widening without compensation.
