Regarding the bill to separate the prosecution’s investigative powers, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol’s side proposed that it be put to a referendum in the June 1 local elections.

President-elect Jang Je-won, chief of staff, met with reporters this afternoon and said, “I’m going to report to Yoon Seok-yeol the proposal to put the bill to be put to a national referendum. Wouldn’t it be?” he said.

“Despite the birth of a new government, the National Assembly unilaterally dictates the parliamentary dictatorship,” said Jang.

In response, Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Minjoo Party, said at an emergency general meeting of the House of Representatives held this afternoon, “The referendum argument is staggering.” retorted.

Vice Chairman Yun Ho-jung also said, “The referendum is conducted on issues related to unification, diplomacy, security, and national security. Is the question of properly changing the prosecution system a matter of national security? They are trying to mistreat the people,” he said.
