Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, criticized the Japanese embassy’s refusal to accept President Moon Jae-in’s Lunar New Year gift because it had a picture of Dokdo on it, saying it was an “obvious territorial provocation”.

Professor Seo pointed out on his Facebook page on the 24th that the Blue House returned the Lunar New Year gift box sent to the Japanese Ambassador to Korea Koichi Aiboshi in the name of President Moon and his wife on the 21st.

Previously, according to NHK, etc., the Japanese embassy in South Korea protested because there was a picture of Dokdo on the gift box, refused to receive the gift box for President Moon’s Lunar New Year, and told the Korean government, “Dokdo is clearly Japanese territory under international law, even in light of historical facts.” was reported to have protested.

Japan’s claims about Dokdo have continued one after another in recent years. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said in a diplomatic speech to the regular National Assembly on the 17th that “Takeshima (the name of Dokdo claimed by Japan) is Japan’s own territory even under international law, even in light of historical facts.”

In addition, on the 16th, a tsunami warning was issued for Japan due to a submarine volcanic eruption near Tonga, an island country in the South Pacific, and the Japan Meteorological Agency marked Dokdo as its territory on the forecast map posted on its website.

Professor Seo said, “It is a ‘trick strategy’ to make Dokdo an international disputed area. It is a matter of strengthening public relations,” he suggested.

In particular, Professor Seo emphasized that if the world’s recent interest in ‘K-content’ is utilized, Dokdo can be introduced culturally and naturally, and that “it is very important to further revitalize Dokdo tourism to strengthen effective domination.”
