Japan’s Ohtani joins WBC 1R… The match between Korea and Japan is heating up.

Ohtani Shohei.

Shohei Ohtani (28, Los Angeles Angels) will join the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) held in March next year from the first round.

According to Japanese media Nippon Sports on the 21st, Otani’s agent Nezu Valero said, “Otani has a strong will to participate in the WBC. I fully support his participation in the tournament.” “Otani is going to Japan before (the first round begins. The timetable for joining the Japanese baseball team) has not been decided.”

Ohtani, who turned pro in 2013, has never participated in a WBC. Nippon Sports analyzed, “Like Norichika Aoki, who participated in the 2017 WBC, Ohtani is expected to join the baseball team after playing several exhibition games.”

Japan will meet in Group B against Korea, Australia, China and one team that has passed the qualifiers in the first round of WBC 2023. The five teams will play the full league at Tokyo Dome from March 9 to 13 next year , and the top two teams will advance to the second round. Korea and Japan will face each other on March 10 next year.

Ohtani will likely start out against Korea. In the 2015 World Baseball Confederation (WBSC) Major League Baseball (WBSC) 12, Ohtani pitched perfectly with 3 hits and no runs in 12.2 innings against Korea in the opener and semifinals. At the time, I wasn’t playing as a hitter.
