‘Ransom’, starring Jin Seon-gyu and Jeon Jong-seo, entered the feature film competition section of the Cannes International Series Festival.

Teabing said on the 28th, “‘Ransom’ was officially invited to the feature competition section of the Cannes International Series Festival for the first time as a domestic OTT original series.”

‘Ransom’ was officially invited to the feature film competition section following the announcement of the Cannes International Film Festival Series. This work competes with 10 nominees for a feature-length competition, and awards are given in five categories: Best Series, Music Award, Screenplay Award, and Actor Award.

The Cannes International Series Festival, which celebrated its 6th anniversary this year, is a festival for drama and series content around the world. This year, it will be held in Cannes, France from the 14th to the 19th of next month. Last year, Teabing’s original series ‘Goi’ and ‘Drinking City Women’ were invited alongside the non-competitive section of the 2022 Cannes International Series Festival, generating keen interest in K-content.

‘Ransom’ depicts the story of three people negotiating for each other’s ransom, who are trapped in a building that was demolished by an earthquake, each one starts a risky deal to grab the last chance and fights like crazy. ‘Ransom’, which gathered word of mouth thanks to the one-take filming technique that provides overwhelming immersion and the passionate performances of actors such as Jin Seon-gyu, Jeon Jong-seo, and Jang-ryul, recorded the highest UV viewing among all the original tapes during the first week of its release in October last year. Then, for two weeks in a row, it drew attention by reaching No. 1 in the number of weekly paid TV subscription contributors.

Teabing’s original series ‘Island’ was also shortlisted in the Rendezvous section of the non-competitive Cannes International Series Festival. ‘Island’ is a work that depicts the journey of characters who are destined to fight against the evil that is trying to destroy the world. This work, released through Amazon Prime Video, entered the top 10 in 26 countries in the Amazon Prime Video TV show category, as well as coming first in four countries and regions including Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Hwang Hye-jeong, CCO in charge of Teabing’s content, said, “I am delighted that the original TV series has been recognized for its artistic quality through an invitation to the feature competition section of the Cannes International Series Festival and an official invitation for the second consecutive year. We hope that we can promote the competitiveness of the original TV series to the audience and further increase the value of the TV brand on the overseas stage.” Alvin Levy, the artist director of the Khan series, said, “I have strong confidence in the global box office success of the work, so much so that I confirmed ‘The Ransom’ as the first feature film to be invited to the competition section.”

Meanwhile, the award ceremony for the feature film competition, to which ‘Ransom’ was officially invited, will be held on the 19th of next month along with the closing ceremony.
