Highlight:

  • Joe Root may attend IPL auction
  • Root has not played in the IPL yet
  • He went on to win the 2018 Star Auction

It has been reported that Australian star pacer Mitchell Starc is seriously considering registering his name in the IPL mega auction. Despite being one of the superstars in world cricket, Starc, who has not played much in the IPL, is expected to be a part of the tournament this year. Meanwhile, England’s Test captain Joe Root is reportedly considering registering his name in the IPL auction.

Speaking to the media ahead of the fifth Ashes Test against Australia, Joe Root himself said that he was thinking of registering his name in the IPL auction. Route made it clear that he would register his name in the auction if playing in the IPL did not adversely affect his ability to play Test matches for England, but added that no decision had yet been made in this regard.

At the same time, Joe Root is a player who has never played in the IPL. The name was registered at the 2018 Mega Auction but the player was unsold due to lack of demand. Root, who has not been part of the England T20 squad for the past few years, does not have an impressive record in T20. Therefore, even if the name is registered in the auction this time, it is doubtful that the player will get the IPL bid. It is believed that he will register his name for the root auction only after he has really thought twice about having an unsold experience at the auction.

Joe Root, who has played 32 T20 internationals for England, has scored 893 runs at an average of 35.72. Root played his last international T20 match in May 2019 against Pakistan. Root, who has not been named in the T20 squad since then, is currently not in England’s T20 squad plans.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the IPL megastar auction will be held in Bangalore on the 12th and 13th of next month. The BCCI has not yet taken a decision on the issue, despite rumors that the star auction may be postponed due to rising Kovid in the country.
