Joe Root surpasses Tendulkar

Englishman Joe Root breaks Tendulkar’s record Root has surpassed Tendulkar to become the fifth highest run scorer in a calendar year in Test cricket.

In 2021, Root scored 1,578 runs. In 2010, Root broke Tendulkar’s record of 1,562 runs. Root aims to improve its position on the list with 20 matches still to play in 2021.

Root averaged 65.96 in 14 games, averaging 1,578 runs. Root scored 6 centuries and 2 fifties. In 2010, Tendulkar scored 1,562 runs, including 7 centuries and 5 fifties.

Mohammad Yousaf has topped the list of highest run scorers in a calendar year. In 2006, Yusuf scored 1788 runs.

West Indies legend Viviel Richards is second on the list with 1710 runs. Richards’ achievement was in 1976.

Graeme Smith (1,656) and Michael Clarke (1,595) are third and fourth on the list.

Root is followed by Sachin Tendulkar (1,562), Sunil Gavaskar (1,549) and Ricky Ponting (1,544).

With the Ashes currently underway against Australia, Root is also poised to become the highest-scoring batsman in a calendar year in terms of performance and form.
