MELBOURNE: England captain Joe Root has made history with his personal best despite kneeling in the Ashes Test series. Root holds the record for the most runs scored in a calendar year in Test cricket.

With 28 runs scored in the second innings of the third Ashes Test, Joe Root’s batting average this year rose to 1708. The batting average of the route is 61.00.

With this, Root became the third highest run scorer in Test cricket history in a calendar year. Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan topped the list with 1788 runs in 2006. West Indies legend Vivian Richards is second with 1710 runs. Richards achieved this feat in 1976.

Root missed the chance to overtake Richards just two runs away. Root finished third, beating South Africa’s Graeme Smith’s record. In 2021, Root set the record for most runs in Test cricket.
