Joaquín Pérez, an 11-year-old artist from Guayana, Venezuela, will represent his country at the international exhibition We are the World
in Florence, Italy, in June 2026.
Pérez is the first Venezuelan child specializing in the technique of hyperrealism to present his work on a global stage of this magnitude. According to reporting by Diario Primicia, his European tour will extend beyond Italy, as his pieces are scheduled to travel to Paris, France, for another prestigious international exhibition following the event in Florence.
Artistic Evolution and Technique
The young artist began his path in the arts at age two as a self-taught creator. By the age of eight, Pérez began formal training through vacation programs, where he developed his skills in graphite and chiaroscuro.
His transition into hyperrealism occurred in 2024 during a four-hour live drawing class. Reflecting on that experience, Pérez told Diario Primicia, Me enamoré del hiperrealismo. Empecé a ver ojos en todas partes, practicaba y practicaba
(I fell in love with hyperrealism. I started seeing eyes everywhere, I practiced and practiced).
Pérez describes his commitment to art as a vital necessity, comparing the act of creation to a basic biological function.
Para mí es como comer, porque puedo pasar horas y horas dibujando con un papel y un lápiz
(For me it is like eating, because I can spend hours and hours drawing with a piece of paper and a pencil), the artist stated.
Exhibition History
Before his upcoming international appearances in Italy and France, Pérez has already established a presence in significant Venezuelan art spaces. His work has been displayed at the Galería de Arte Nacional (GAN) in Caracas and the gallery of the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV).
He is currently exhibiting a collection titled Trazo de admiración
at the library of the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Ucab) Guayana.
