‘K-phone is here’; Free connection for 100 families in each constituency – CM

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the K Phone project, which aims to provide better internet broadband connectivity in the state, is progressing fast. The CM said that K Phone was moving towards its goal of overcoming the adverse conditions including floods and Kovid and would provide free connection to 100 families below the poverty line in 140 assembly constituencies by May 2022.

The Chief Minister’s Facebook post says that it is the experience of Kerala for the last six years that the Left government will implement what it says and that the K-Phone project will be successfully completed by proving once again that experience is not wrong. With the completion of the scheme, broadband connection will be made available to 20 lakh families free of cost and others at subsidized rates.

Currently, 2045 km of the 2600 km optical ground wire installation has been completed. 34961 km 11,906 km of ADS OFC cable laying has been completed in 14 districts. Out of 75 popes (POP – Points of Presence) 114 have been completed and 216 are in the process of being completed. These are set up at KSEB substations.

All work on NOC (Network Operating Center) has been completed. Of the 30,000 government offices targeting end office connectivity, 3,019 will be operational by December 31, 2021. The work is progressing with the setting up of 3000 to 5000 offices every month. The rest will be completed by June 2022, the CM said.
