(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Yoo Cheol-jong = After the mysterious plane crash death of Yevgeny Prigozin, the leader of Russian mercenary group Wagner, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Autonomous Republic of Chechnya, who previously criticized the Russian military leadership, has pledged loyalty to President Vladimir Putin. Demonstrating his allegiance, Kadyrov’s commitment knows no bounds.
According to local Russian media on the 1st (local time), Kadyrov posted an article on his Telegram channel on the 30th of last month, the day after Prigozhin’s funeral, stating, “I am a foot soldier under the command of Russia’s Supreme Commander, Vladimir Putin, and I am dedicated to the Fatherland (Russia) and its interests.”
He went on to say, “I am prepared to carry out any order from Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin), even if it means sacrificing my life.” Kadyrov emphasized his unwavering loyalty by adding, “If I discover that someone is more loyal to our president than myself, I may give up my life before my time comes.”
Reports from Western media suggesting his possible assassination have been dismissed as an attempt to incite hostilities in Russia. Kadyrov stated that he owes his life to President Putin on two separate occasions but declined to provide further details.

A few months ago, Kadyrov even shared a photograph of himself with Putin on Telegram, possibly to highlight their close relationship.
The British Daily Financial Times (FT) observes that Kadyrov’s “loyalty oath” comes as far-right nationalist hardliners, previously critical of the Kremlin and Ministry of Defense, attempt to dispel doubts about their allegiance to President Putin following Prigogin’s demise.
Kadyrov, 46, succeeded his late father, former Chechen president Ahmat Kadyrov, in 2007. Leading the Republic of Chechnya, an Islamic region within Russia, he wielded significant power in exchange for loyalty to President Putin and the Kremlin. Nonetheless, this has led to controversy surrounding the suppression of human rights.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February of last year, the notorious Chechen National Guard (Home Army) soldiers were dispatched to support the Russian army. This resembled Prigozhin’s utilization of his private mercenary company, the Wagner Group, on the front lines during the war in Ukraine.
Subsequently, both men demonstrated a sense of camaraderie by publicly criticizing the Russian Defense Ministry and senior generals for their inadequate conduct of the war.

However, after the armed rebellion instigated by the Wagner Group against Russian military command came to an end after mere hours in June, Kadyrov distanced himself from Prigozhin and swiftly aligned himself with the Kremlin.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg News reported on the 31st of last month that the Kremlin is swiftly moving to assume control of Prigozhin’s vast business empire in Africa and the Middle East through Wagner Group. According to sources, a military contractor affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense will take over the mercenary group’s operations in the Central African Republic, where Wagner was primarily active, effectively placing all of Wagner’s clandestine foreign business networks under the control of the Russian army and the Kremlin.

Kadyrov even posted a picture of himself with Putin on Telegram a few months ago, as if to show his close relationship with President Putin.
The British Daily Financial Times (FT) pointed out that Kadyrov’s ‘loyalty oath’ came as far-right nationalist hardliners, once critical of the Kremlin and the Ministry of Defense, tried to refrain from actions that doubts their loyalty to President Putin after that. the death of Prigogin.
Kadyrov, 46, succeeded his father, former Chechen president Ahmat Kadyrov, who was assassinated in 2004, and began ruling Chechnya, the chaotic Islamic republic in Russia, in 2007.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, the notorious Chechen National Guard (Home Army) soldiers were sent to the battlefield to support the Russian army.
It was similar to the way Prigozhin put his Wagner Group, a private mercenary company he had led, in the front line of the war in Ukraine.
Afterwards, the two men showed a spirit of harmony, such as voicing criticism in public, saying that the Russian Defense Ministry and high-ranking generals were not conducting war properly.
