Kakao enters digital healthcare business… Established an in-house independent company

Kakao announced on the 2nd that it would establish a healthcare in-house independent company (CIC) that will be in charge of the digital healthcare business. Hwang Hee, a professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (VP of Easy Care Tech), was appointed as the representative.

Based on Kakao technology, digital capabilities, and user service experience, Healthcare CIC plans to develop differentiated digital healthcare business such as health care and smart medicine by life cycle, centered on the global market.

It also focuses on building a digital healthcare ecosystem by collaborating with startups and organizations related to digital healthcare.

Hwang Hee, CEO of Healthcare CIC, is a pediatric specialist and has served as a professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Department of Pediatrics and Neurology Center, and vice president of Easy Care Tech, a healthcare company invested by Seoul National University Hospital.

Last year, he was selected as one of the 50 digital healthcare innovation leaders by the American Medical Information Society (HIMSS), and was inducted into the Healthcare IT Hall of Fame by the Asia-Pacific Medical Information Society in 2016.

CEO Hwang also has experience in promoting digital hospital innovation projects with more than 20 overseas hospitals. He said, “Based on the experience accumulated in the medical and healthcare fields, Kakao will do its best to innovate the digital healthcare field in the global market.”
