Pathanamthitta: The Kaki-Anathodu dam under the Sabarigiri project was opened at 11 am. An orange alert was issued ahead of the opening of the nearby Pampa Dam.

Kaki raised the two shutters of the dam and let the water out at 100 cusecs to 200 cusecs. In populated areas, the water gradually flows into the Pampa River so that the water level does not rise above a maximum of 15 cm.

The water flowing out will reach Sabarimala Pampa Triveni in about an hour through the river Pampa. Kaki-Ananthodu is the second largest dam in the state after Idukki. The cause of the catastrophic floods of 2018 was the opening of the Kaki Elephant Dam.

Therefore, the Irrigation Department is constantly monitoring the water level in the Pampana River this time. Local bodies along the Pampana River have issued a warning to the people through mic announcements.

Steps have been taken to relocate all people living in high-risk areas to camps. The orange alert was issued as the water level in the Pampa dam reached a maximum capacity of 986.33 meters. When the water level reaches 984.50 meters, a red alert will be declared. The water level is now 983.5 meters.
