Kane Williamson resigns as New Zealand Test captain New Zealand Cricket has announced that veteran Southee will be the Test captain in his place. Meanwhile, Williamson will continue to captain the ODI and T20 teams.
The 32-year-old Williamson responded that captaincy in Test cricket is an incredibly special honour. In 2016, the player took the captaincy of the Test team. Being captain is a huge workload on and off the field. “At this point in my career, it’s time to make this decision,” he said.
Under Williamson’s captaincy, New Zealand have won 22 of the 40 Test matches played. Tim Southee will lead the team in the Test series in Pakistan from December 26.
