Kerala Rain: Change in rain warning; Orange alert in five districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Change in rain warning in the state. Orange alert was declared in five districts. The orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts.

Yellow alert has been declared in all the districts except Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Heavy rainfall over Idukki High Range

Heavy rains in the state due to the impact of the cyclone off the coast of Sri Lanka. The cyclone will turn into a low pressure area in the Andaman Sea by Monday. It is likely to move to the Indian coast later.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Andhra Pradesh floods rose to 59. Although the rains have subsided, floods are expected in the low-lying areas as more water is released from the dams. More than 4,000 hectares of crops were destroyed. Areas in the eastern districts were isolated as major bridges were destroyed in the floods. Twenty-five villages below the Rayala slope reservoir are under water. Following the discovery of the dam, more water was released from the Annamaya dam in Kadapa district.

A state of alert has been issued in Andhra Pradesh following warnings of heavy rains in the next two days. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least 100 places below the railway line and in the city of Tirupati. The situation in Kadapa district is also dire as more water has flowed out of the Annamaya dam. Extensive damage has been reported in agricultural areas including Chittoor and Nellore.
