Thiruvananthapuram: Isolated heavy rains continue in the state. It is raining heavily in Thiruvananthapuram. Yellow alert has been issued in 12 districts except Kannur and Kasaragod. Vithura, Palode and Nedumangad received heavy rainfall for five hours. Water level in Wamanapuram and Neyyar rivers rose. Educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram district will be closed tomorrow. The Vithura Ponnam Lip Bridge and the Sunflower Bridge were flooded. The road near the Attingal private busstand was flooded. There is a strong flow here. Two-wheeler traffic was disrupted.
There was a mountain water patch similar to the landslide in Vellarada. 15 families were relocated. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Chundikan Nellissery and at the foot of Kurisumala. The rocks also flowed in a manner similar to a landslide.
Kollam district also received good rainfall for two hours. No damage has been reported so far. Water flooded the ground floor of MC Road. Traffic was light at this time of night. Vehicles are being diverted to other interstates. The District Collector has announced holidays for all educational institutions, including professional colleges in Kollam district, in case the rains continue.
Fishermen have been warned not to go to sea from tonight. The tornado, which is currently in the Comoros, will make landfall in the Arabian Sea tomorrow. A new low will form in the Bay of Bengal tomorrow. It is likely to strengthen and move to the Indian coast later. Isolated heavy rains will continue in Kerala for three more days as the easterly winds become active due to cyclones and low pressure.
