KIA Yang Hyun-jong, the youngest member of the KBO League to win 150 victories

[아이뉴스24 류한준 기자] Yang Hyun-jong, one of the left-handed aces representing the KBO League, including the KIA Tigers in professional baseball, achieved a great record. Yang Hyun-jong started the away game against the Lotte Giants at Sajik Stadium on the 19th.

He pitched 87 pitches in 7.2 innings against Lotte on that day and recorded 4 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 2 runs. He gave Dae-ho Lee a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, but he did not concede any more and showed stable pitching.

KIA took the lead in a 4-2 victory over Lotte with Lee Chang-jin’s concentration on the batting line, including a solo home run that was key to the game in the ninth inning. If Yang Hyun-jong became the winning pitcher that day, he posted his third win (2 losses) of the season.

In addition, he also achieved his 150th win in his career. He also set a new record for the fourth time in KBO league history and the youngest in history. Yang Hyun-jong reached the height of 150 wins at the age of 34 years, 2 months and 18 days, and advanced the age of 35 years, 2 months and 27 days, written by Jung Min-cheol (currently head of the Hanwha Eagles) as a player.

Yang Hyun-jong also stood shoulder to shoulder with Lee Kang-cheol (currently KT Wiz manager), including the team’s forerunner days. Manager Lee won 150 victories in Haitai and KIA, and added two more in the Samsung Lions jersey.

Yang Hyun-jong graduated from Dongseong High School in Gwangju and debuted in the KBO League at the KIA in 2007. On September 27, 2007, he announced his first professional victory in the match against Hanwha at Daejeon Stadium (now Hanwha Life Eagles Park).

In 2009, with 12 wins, he achieved his first double-digit multiplier, and since then he has steadily built up his wins and finally reached 150 wins. His personal 150 wins is also the record that came back 15 years after Jung Min-cheol in 2007.

Thanks to Yang Hyeon-jong’s strong fighting, KIA swept all three away matches against Lotte during the week. With 21 wins and 19 losses, Lotte (20 wins, 1 draws and 19 losses) moved down to 7th and moved up to 6th.
