Kim Foxx-Jussie Smollett fallout: Former unknown prosecutor with deep-pitched eyes

Bill Conway wishes to be held against Kim Foxx for the Democratic nomination for Cook County State solicitor.

Bill? You want to ask you.

Conway, 41, spent six years as an assistant state solicitor under Richard Devine and Anita Alvarez, and he recently acquired skills as a Naval Information Officer. He helped money from the illicit Andrew.

He worked locally in the financial crimes department and special prosecutions, going after various government officials and employees for misconduct, including a police officer.

As a Naval Reserve on active duty, he was sent to Qatar in 2017 and worked to track the Taliban cash supply, which led to a New York Times profile series of bombing raids on Afghan drug treatment laboratories.

Conway has a law degree from Georgetown, M.B. from the University of Chicago and an accounting degree from Wharton School.

There are any other small factors to consider: his father, William E. Conway Jr, co-founder of The Carlyle Group, is one of the world's largest private equity firms.

A younger Conway says he has not made a final decision to challenge Foxx in his re-election offer, but if he campaigns, he expects to spend “significant personal and family resources” on the race.

Many believe that Foxx is politically vulnerable to getting into 2020 because of how it tackled Jussie Smollett's case, which again raised Friday when Cook County's judge decided that d & # 39 special prosecutor to review the matter.

Many competitors are said to be watching the competition. But Conway is the first person to raise his hand and ask for it to be considered.

Conway looked at a pre-mitigation meeting last week of Cook County's Democratic Party, and told me he does not seek endorsement of the organization if he runs.

“I think the state solicitor's office should be independent of the Cook County Democratic Party,” he said. “Actually, that is not my crowd. I do not know those people. ”

At this point, party leaders are expected to adhere to Foxx.

Asking why he would like to become a state solicitor, Conway mentions his period as assistant in the office from 2006 to 2012 and his satisfaction from working for victims of crime.

“Actually, it was the best job I ever had,” he said. “I am very passionate about my time as an ASA and that office. And I don't think that office is in the right direction, and honestly, I humbly recommend that I know how to fix it. ”

“First of all, I would like to give that office real integrity and independence,” he continued. “With that I mean we should all be playing with the same rules. You enter the criminal justice system as a victim or defendant, your race, your gender, your sexual orientation, your ZIP code, whether or not you are connected, there should not be anything like that your case is handled. ”

There was no such reference to the allegation. Foxx's influence was Smollett to be soft.

It is said specifically about Smollett, Conway, “Look, I'm not very careful about Jussie Smollett. I didn't want him to go to prison. I don't think most people did. But the reality was that we pulled the onion back for this and it was seen that this case was treated differently because a person who was connected had asked for it to be treated differently. ”

After the charges against Smollett, Conway stood in to represent another woman, Candace Clark, who was the subject of Sun-Times's story about a judge's complaint that she was treating her at Foxx's very crime office. apparently.

Conway was able to improve her plea deal slightly, but claims that she was still unfairly treated. He said he would have made the case even if he was not preparing to run against Foxx.

If elected, Conway said it will place more emphasis on prosecuting public corruption cases and drawing on his experience of targeting the Taliban to track the supply of money in gun crimes.

Conway was not practicing law enough. After receiving his MBA while working with the state solicitor, he spent three years as an investment banker for J.P Morgan.

Since returning from active duty to the Navy, Conway is teaching financially at DePaul University and managing a family investment fund. He married last August.

Conway is not fully known but there is the kind of money that a candidate can make for the first time.
