Kim Jae-yun, a third-term lawmaker from Jeju, was found dead.
According to police on the 29th, former lawmaker Kim was found dead in front of a building in Seocho-gu, Seoul around 12:55 pm that day. A passerby who witnessed Kim reported it to the police. Police are investigating the exact cause of death, keeping in mind the possibility that Kim made an extreme choice.
Former lawmaker Kim served as the 17th, 18th and 19th member of the United Democratic Party and New Politics Alliance for Democracy, the current passport. Most recently, he served as a chair professor at a university.
Previously, former lawmaker Kim was sentenced to prison for investigation by the prosecution. From August 2013 to May 2014, he was indicted on charges of accepting 54 million won (bribes under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes) from Kim Min-seong, president of the Seoul General Arts Vocational School, in exchange for amending the law related to the name change. In November 2015, the Supreme Court confirmed the lower court sentenced Kim to four years in prison, a fine of 60 million won, and a fine of 54 million won.
After being released from prison, former lawmaker Kim, along with members of the lawmakers who were indicted, raised suspicions about the prosecution’s planned investigation and started to restore his honor.
