[아시아경제 황수미 기자] The Japanese media raised suspicions that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who participated in a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the North Korean regime on the 9th, may be a stand-up.

According to the Tokyo Shimbun, Chairman Kim, who was known to weigh 140kg in November last year, appeared at the event with a slim figure. Regarding this, the newspaper reported that speculation is divided as to whether Chairman Kim went on a diet or attended a double.

As the basis for the suspicion of treason, he mentioned the appearance at the expanded meeting of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in November last year. “Last year, Chairman Kim’s cheeks were so swollen that he could barely see his neck,” he said.

He also added that the South Korean National Intelligence Service had also announced the analysis that Chairman Kim weighed in the 140 kg range.

In an interview with the Tokyo Shimbun, Koh Young-cheol, a senior researcher at Takushoku University, speculated that he might be one of the guards belonging to the bodyguard unit, saying, “Chairman Kim’s recent appearance has a different side face and hair shape compared to before, and he looks very young.” Researcher Koh previously worked as a North Korean analyst at the South Korean Ministry of National Defense.

But there are also objections. First, on July 8, the NIS reported that Kim Jong-un had lost 10 to 12 kg, adding weight to the diet theory. North Korean political scientist Junji Hiraiwa, a professor at Nanzan University, also dismissed the suspicion of treason, saying, “Chairman Kim is back to what he was like in 2012.”
