It has been confirmed that Incheon International Airport Corporation President Kim Gyeong-wook (57), who has 10 months left in his term, has submitted a letter of resignation after being pressured by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to resign.

President Kim held a meeting on the 28th and said about the background of the resignation, “It has been confirmed that he has lost the trust of the Seok-yeol Yoon government, such as removing Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong from his duties after live bullets were recently found in a passenger plane at Incheon Airport. I think that’s the attitude of a good public official,” he said.

President Kim continued, “There was no direct pressure to resign, but I could understand the will of the personnel authority based on various circumstances, such as the recent discovery of live ammunition.”

In particular, President Kim stressed, “At Incheon Airport, live bullets come out from time to time,” and “the discovery of live bullets should not be a reason for the resignation of the CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation.”

Earlier, on the 23rd, President Kim conveyed his intention to resign after the current affairs through a meeting with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, and submitted a letter of resignation to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport next day saying, “I will resign on April 28.”

President Kim said, “The day after I expressed my appreciation to Minister Won and submitted a letter of resignation, this fact was immediately revealed to the media and accepted as pressure to resign.”

President Kim has said several times that he will fill out his term until February next year, such as leaving the Democratic Party in January and not running in next year’s general election.

In particular, CEO Kim graduated from Chungam High School and Seoul National University, and is younger than President Yoon Seok-yeol. In particular, he is the junior of Public Administration and Security Minister Lee Sang-min, whose duties were suspended due to impeachment, and is known to have a close relationship with Minister Lee.

The pressure from Yoon Seok-yeol’s government to resign against President Kim, who was appointed by Moon Jae-in’s government in February 2021, has continued. The Audit and Inspection Board is still conducting a financial soundness audit that began in October last year, and high-ranking government officials even exempted President Kim from entering and exiting Incheon International Airport .

President Kim said, “I will close my business as soon as the 22nd anniversary of the opening of the port on the 29th and the public enterprise management evaluation in April is completed.”
