Bayern Munich Takes the Lead in Bundesliga Opener

In a spectacular performance by Kim Min-jae and Harry Kane, Bayern Munich gained an early advantage in their opening match against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga’s 2023-2024 season. The game took place at the Beserstadion in Bremen, Germany, at 3:30 am on the 19th (Korea time).

Munich dominated the first half, securing a 1-0 lead and inching closer to an impressive 12-game unbeaten streak in opening matches. Their remarkable start to the season continued with 9 wins and 2 draws since the 2012-2013 season.

Adopting a 4-2-3-1 formation, Munich kicked-off the game with a formidable lineup comprising of Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Zane, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Alfonso Davies, Minjae Kim, Dayo Upamecano, Nusayr Mazrawi, and Sven Ulreich. This match marked the Bundesliga debut for both Kim Min-jae and Kane.

Meanwhile, Werder Bremen opted for a 3-5-2 formation, fielding Marvin Duksch-Niklas Fulkruq, Anthony Jung-Jens Stage-Leonardo Bitenkour-Mitchell Weiser, Marco Friedl-Miloš Belkovic-Amos Piefer, and Irzy Pavlenka.

Munich wasted no time and demonstrated their dominance just three minutes into the game. Despite Munich’s early lead, Bremen fought hard to equalize. In the 8th minute of the first half, Fulkruq managed a powerful header from a free kick, sending the ball into the net. However, the goal was disallowed due to an offside call.

Munich continued their offensive pressure. In the 18th minute of the first half, Musiala received an accurate pass from Kim Min-jae, turned swiftly, and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot towards the goal. Unfortunately, the ball narrowly missed its target, grazing past the left side of the net. Just two minutes later, Mazrawi’s shot also agonizingly missed the left goal post.

Kim Min-jae displayed his exceptional passing skills on numerous occasions. In the 26th minute of the first half, he executed a perfect long pass, finding Comang in space behind the left side of the defense. Although Comang’s subsequent cross was blocked by the defense, it served as a testament to Kim Min-jae’s prowess.

Kim Min-jae came close to scoring his first goal in Germany in the 45th minute of the first half. He expertly connected with a cross from Kimmich, heading the ball towards the goal. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper managed to make the save, denying Kim Min-jae the glory. As the first half concluded, Munich maintained their 1-0 lead.

This impressive performance by Bayern Munich sets the stage for an exciting Bundesliga season ahead. As fans eagerly await the team’s next matches, it is clear that Kim Min-jae and Harry Kane have made a formidable impact in their much-anticipated debuts.

Munich finished the first half with a 1-0 lead, taking one step closer to a 12-game unbeaten run in the opening game. Munich have 9 wins and 2 draws in the first game of the season since last season 2012-2013.

Munich started with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Zane, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Alfonso Davies, Minjae Kim, Dayo Upamecano, Nusayr Mazrawi, Sven Ulreich were the starters. Kim Min-jae and Kane made their Bundesliga debuts side by side.
