Kodanad Estate Murder Case: Shashikala and Edappadi should be tried: Petition

by news dir

Chennai: Former Chief Minister and current Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswamy and nine others, including VK Sasikala, a friend of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and former Anna DMK general secretary, have been booked in the Kodanad estate murder case.

Deepu, MS Satheesan and A. Santhosh Swamy, residents of Thrissur, had approached the Nilgiris High Court against the decision to hold a trial only for the estate manager.

The petition alleges that the second accused Sayan and another accused Manoj (Walayar Manoj) disclosed the role of Edappadi but no inquiry was held and the Nilgiris District Court dropped the case. Shashikala’s sister-in-law J Ilavarasi, Shashikala’s nephew VN Sudhakaran, former Nilgiris District Collector Shankar, SP Murali Rambha, AnnaDMK state organizer Sajeevan, Kodanad estate manager Natarajan and Sunil are also wanted in the trial. The petition may be considered next week.

In April 2017, Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate bungalow was raided and a security guard was killed. Police have approached the Nilgiris District Court seeking permission to re-investigate the case. An order in this regard will be issued on the 27th.

Meanwhile, the Congress has issued a notice in the Assembly demanding that the Kodanad case be discussed immediately. The Speaker did not consider the issue as the AIADMK had responded that it was against the rules for the House to discuss the matter before the court.
