President Yoon Seok-yeol and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau met again in Canada’s Oval Office after a three-month NATO tour in June.

After the summit, the two leaders released a joint press conference that included details on building mineral cooperation, expanding people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and close cooperation on the North Korean nuclear issue.

In particular, Korea, a major producer of semiconductors and batteries, decided to implement a high-level channel to ensure a stable supply chain from Canada, a producer of first-class minerals.

“First, we decided to further strengthen economic and security cooperation between our two countries. We will establish a solid cooperative system in the field of mineral resources between the two governments and companies.”

The two leaders also agreed to start a high-level joint intergovernmental committee to achieve the 2050 carbon neutrality and decarbonisation goals.

They also agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation in preparation for the growing nuclear threat from North Korea.
