KDB Chairman Lee Dong-geol (pictured), who expressed his resignation ahead of the launch of the new government, criticized Korea Development Bank’s move to Busan, saying, “The Gyeongsangbuk-do (Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam) should not become a sinkhole for the Korean economy.”

He said, “Buul-gyeong is the region that received the most industrialization favors during the former President Park Chung-hee, and it is an area where key industries are concentrated.

Chairman Lee held a press conference on the 2nd and said, “A wrong decision can cause irreversible harm. It’s worrisome,” he said. He has publicly expressed his opposition to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol’s promise to ‘relocate the Saneun headquarters to Busan’.

In relation to the relocation of the headquarters, he argued that three principles should be considered: ▶ Sharing the pain and responsible role of the region, ▶ Sustainable regional development, and ▶ Contributing to the national economy.

Chairman Lee said, “It is a balanced regional development if this principle is properly considered, otherwise it will be ‘spending’.” There is no claim,” he dismissed.

Chairman Lee emphasized the importance of industrial restructuring and enhancing future competitiveness at the national level on issues such as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Ssangyong Motor, which have not yet completed restructuring, and explained the achievements of the past five years.

Regarding Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, he said, “This is a problem that needs to be solved at the industrial level, not the corporate level, and restructuring at the level of the shipbuilding industry is absolutely necessary.” As it is not a structure that can be done, it needs to be reorganized into a ‘big two’ system.”

Regarding Ssangyong Motor, he pointed out, “It is not something the KDB can make a decision as the rehabilitation court is under its control, but it is inherently very weak in competitiveness.

Regarding the role of the new government, he said, “As a policy financial institution, the KDB should contribute to economic stability as a market safety plate in the event of a macroeconomic shock, and nurture the future food industry such as innovative growth to improve the sustainability of the national economy.” I ask people to think about it rationally while looking at it for a long time.”
