Korean government bonds added to WGBI’s watch list

(Seoul = Yonhap Infomax) Correspondent Jae-Heon Lee = Korean government bonds were successfully included in the World Government Bond Index (WGBI) Watch List. Working-level talks with the Russell Stock Exchange (FTSE Russell) emerged three months after they began.

According to FTSE Russell’s ‘September 2022 Bond Country Classification Results’ by FTSE Russell on the 30th, Korea was just added to the WGBI War List. Last June, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the government bonds authority, and the FTSE Russell began discussions with the working level team and they were immediately given a pass rating at the first screening.

FTSE Russell decides whether or not to be on the WGBI watch list in March and September each year. Korea is now on the WGBI watch list, so it can aim for official incorporation next year.
