Korean Men’s 400m Relay Team Aims for Medal at Asian Games after 37-Year Drought

Men’s 400m Relay Finals: A Long-Awaited Medal Challenge

Securing a spot in the finals, the Korean track and field men’s 400m relay team has breathed new life into their medal aspirations at the Asian Games for the first time in 37 years.

In an impressive display of speed and skill, the Korean men’s short distance relay team, comprised of Lee Jeong-tae, Kim Gook-young, Lee Jae-seong, and Park Won-jin, showcased their talent in the initial group heats at the Hangzhou Asian Games yesterday (2nd). Completing the race with a time of 38.75 seconds, they secured second place, narrowly trailing behind China and surpassing their own national record set in 2014 by a mere 0.01 seconds.

This pivotal advancement now places the Korean team in a prime position to vie for a coveted medal. If they triumph in the finals tonight (3rd), it will mark a significant milestone, 37 years in the making.

Historically, Korea’s only triumph in the men’s 400m relay at the Asian Games can be traced back to the Seoul Games in 1986, where a bronze medal was proudly claimed.
