Korean National Team Wins Bronze in Women’s 50m Rifle Team Event at Hangzhou Asian Games

The Korean national team, composed of Gye-rim Lee, Eun-seo Lee, and Bae Sang-hee, proudly secured the third place in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position team event at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Grinning from ear to ear, they stood atop the podium at the prestigious Puyang Inhu Mae Sports Center in Hangzhou, China on the 27th.

Impressive Performance Secures Bronze

Lee Eun-seo, representing Seosan City Hall, Lee Gye-rim, from Damyang County Office, and Sang-hee Sang, an athlete from the Armed Forces Athletic Corps, joined forces and exhibited exceptional marksmanship to claim the bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position team event. The event took place at the renowned Puyang Inhu Sports Center in Hangzhou, China on the 27th, with their remarkable total score of 1,756 points, following closely behind China (1,773 points) and India (1,764 points).

In the women’s 50m rifle 3 position team event, the Korean team has consistently showcased their prowess, earning silver medals behind China in four consecutive competitions from Busan in 2002 to Incheon in 2014. After a gap of nine years, they once again demonstrated their strength by securing the bronze in this fiercely contested event. Notably, the team event was not included in the 2018 Jakarta/Palembang Games.

Dominance of China Continues

China’s supremacy in this event remains unchallenged, as they have claimed victory in all nine team competitions since the 1986 Seoul Games.

A Double Triumph for Lee Eun-seo

In addition to her team’s success, Lee Eun-seo, who partnered with Park Ha-jun (KT) in the mixed 10m air rifle event, triumphed once again by winning her second medal of the competition. The bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position team event further solidifies her impressive performance.

An Overview of the 3-Position Rifle Team Competition

In the 3-position rifle team competition, participant positions are determined by aggregating the results from the final rounds of the individual competition. A total of 60 shots are fired during this intense competition, with 20 shots each from the knee position, prone position, and standing position.

Individual Achievements and Advancements

Eunseo Lee achieved a score of 590 points, Bae Sanghee received 586 points, and Gyerim Lee scored 580 points. Furthermore, Eunseo Lee’s overall 5th place finish earned her a spot in the finals, where she will continue to vie for additional medals.

Despite finishing 9th overall, Bae Sang-hee advanced to the finals due to three Chinese players among the top 8. It is important to note that only two participants from each country can partake in the finals.

Gyerim Lee secured the 19th place in the individual rankings.

Success in Women’s 25m Pistol Team Event

Continuing their streak of victories, Korea also attained the bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event. Eun-ji Shim (Hwaseong City Hall), Ji-in Yang (Korea National Sports University), and Ran-ah Kim (Donghae City Hall) greatly contributed to the team’s achievement, garnering a commendable score of 1,742 points. They closely followed India (1,759 points) and China (1,756 points).

A Three-Peat Win in Team Competition

Following their bronze medal accomplishment at the 2010 Guangzhou Games and their gold medal triumph at the 2014 Incheon Games, this marks Korea’s third consecutive victory in the team competition.

Notable Individual Performance

Of the team members, Yang Ji-in impressively advanced to the individual finals by securing the 4th place with a score of 586 points.

Gyerim Lee was in 19th place.
