The police have launched an investigation into a case of extorting money from fans by impersonating the famous musical actor ‘Michael Lee’ on social media.
On the 30th of last month, the Dongan Police Station in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do received a complaint alleging that hundreds of millions of winnings were stolen from an SNS account impersonating Michael Lee and began an investigation.
During the police investigation, victim A said she had received a message from an SNS account introducing herself as Michael Lee about three months ago and had been in contact.
After continuing the conversation for a period of time, the owner of the account said that he was experiencing economic difficulties due to non-payment of taxes, etc., and asked for a loan, and said that he returned 190 million earned three times.
The police see this case as a typical romance scam and plan to seize and search the account.
Michael Lee’s agency asked fans to be careful, saying there were additional cases of damage apart from Mr. A.
