Kottiyoor harassment: Marriage petition rejected | kottiyoor case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected a petition filed by a girl seeking permission to marry former priest Robin Mathew Vadakkumcheri, who is serving his sentence in the Kottiyoor molestation case. The court clarified that it could not intervene in the petition and directed it to approach the High Court in matters relating to marriage. The bench, headed by Justice Vineet Sharan, also refused to remove the reference in the High Court judgment regarding the marriage of the victim.

Robin Mathew had approached the High Court seeking interim bail for 2 months to marry the abused girl and complete the process of adopting the child. However, the High Court rejected the demand, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling that there should be no compromise or benevolent approach in sex crime cases.

Subsequently, the girl filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking two months bail for the marriage. The father’s name must be recorded when enrolling his 4-year-old son in school. Kiran Suri and Alex Joseph, senior lawyers for the girl, said the marriage was to ensure legal paternity for the child. Amit George appeared for Robin Mathew and Harin P. Rawal for the state government.
