Haridwar: A senior monk, Kovid, who was attending the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, has died of an infection. In addition, Kovid confirmed to about eighty monks. The Kumbh Mela is being held in Haridwar with lakhs of people attending as the Kovid crisis intensifies in the country.
So far, Kovid has reportedly confirmed about 2,000 people here. Kapil Dev, the chief monk of the Maha Akhada in Madhya Pradesh, died at the hospital on April 13 after contracting Kovid. Niranjani Akhada, a group of monks, had on Friday announced that she would withdraw from the fair in the wake of the Kovid crisis.
The Kumbh Mela is being held in Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal and Dehradun districts of Uttarakhand on an area of 670 hectares. Every day lakhs of people attend the Kumbh Mela. Most of the 48.51 lakh people who attended the ‘Shahi Snaan’ on April 12 and April 14 had violated the Kovid guidelines on masks and social distance.
