Kovid restrictions lifted: Jumuah reaches lakhs in harems | Masjid al-Haram news updates

Jeddah: Millions flocked to the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah for the first Friday prayers after the enactment of the law allowing full entry of believers into the Haram of Makkah and Madinah. Following Kovid, restrictions on entry to the Haram in Makkah were partially lifted and certain people were allowed entry. In the meantime, the Home Ministry has decided to ease the Kovid restrictions and allow full admission of believers in both the Haram from the last day. Following this, the requirement to maintain social distance between the swafs during the Sunday prayers was removed and the believers were given full access to the prayers on both sides.

Millions of locals, foreigners and Umrah pilgrims performed Friday prayers amid strict health precautions. This is the first time so many people have come to Jumuah after a year and a half of restrictions as a precaution since Kovid. Special people were assigned to monitor compliance with health precautions.

As more people arrived in Jumu’ah, 50 gates were opened in the harem, making it easier for people to move through the entrances and deploying more people to ensure health precautions. All the facilities and equipments required for Friday prayers were prepared in a healthy atmosphere. Around 4,000 workers, both men and women, were assigned to clean and disinfect the inside and outside of the harem 10 times a day. More people were assigned to distribute samsa, to do cleaning work, and to prepare carpets. 50,000 bottles of samsam were prepared for distribution between Jumuah. One lakh liter containers of samsam water were also installed.

Hundreds of thousands of locals, foreigners and visitors thronged the Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah on Friday. In the Masjid al-Haram, Dr. Mahir Al-Muayqi Qili and Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Albuay Jan led the Friday Qutb and prayers at the Masjidunnabavi. On Friday, the head of the Iruharam office, Dr. K.S. Abdurrahman al-Sudais had given the order on Thursday. It is the first Friday since the decision was made to fully admit the believers in the two harams. The head of the Iruharam office had demanded that all services be prepared and the quality of services ensured.
