Koo Koo, KT CEO, criticized CJ ENM, which is facing content royalties, saying, “Common sense, it is excessive.”
CEO Koo met with reporters before attending a meeting with Minister of Science and ICT Lim Hye-sook held at the government complex in Seoul on the afternoon of the 28th and said, “Common sense, the increase rate demanded by CJ ENM is too excessive compared to the previous year.”
KT, along with SK Telecom (SKT) and LG U+, is in conflict with CJ ENM over content usage fees. The three IPTV companies are protesting, claiming that CJ ENM requested a 25% increase in content usage fees compared to the previous year.
KT is also negotiating with CJ ENM for content usage fees for its online video service (OTT), ‘Season’. Again, CJ ENM’s request for a 1,000% increase is unacceptable.
On the same day, CEO Koo said about the season spin-off schedule, “It should have been finished (by now), but there is a slight delay in the courts” and “It will be finished soon.”
Regarding the 5G standalone mode (SA) commercialization plan, he said, “The goal is to launch the service in July.”
